I built BonHand to get my evenings back.

For years I tutored with a chat app, a paper diary and a spreadsheet, and the admin took more and more of my evenings. The tools I found were built for businesses with staff. So I built one for a single person with a full week.

It started with my own week.

A note from the founder

There was no single disaster.

I was an academic tutor for years, teaching primary and secondary students preparing for local exams, mostly online. At my busiest, every slot in my week had a student in it.

I ran it all on a chat app, a paper diary and a spreadsheet or notes app. I tried a phone calendar, but it was too fiddly to keep up for every student. A lesson would move in the chat while the diary kept the old time. Make-up lessons were owed and forgotten. How much to charge each family was hard to keep straight.

It grew week by week, and took more and more of my evenings: updates to parents, working out fees and chasing them, rescheduling, finding what we covered last time.

The tools out there were made for salons, clinics and studios with staff, and were too costly or too complex for one person. So I built BonHand.

It gave me my evenings back. If yours are going the same way, here is what an ordinary week with it looks like.
